Christmas dinner is often the highlight of the day for many people. The downside to this however, is the clearing up. The process of cooking your Christmas dinner can be made much more efficient and easier to clean up with these great tips.
The key to cooking a good Christmas meal is to plan it out. This plan should include more than just simple timings. You can plan the meal right down to how many dishes and utensils you will need to finish it.
Although this may seem obvious to some people, it is something many of us simply don’t do. For those with a dishwasher, ensure it is empty before you start cooking. Using your plan you made in the step above you will know what you can wash or load as soon as you are done with it.
Another tip to keeping on top of the ever building mess that is christmas meals, is to put away food as soon as possible. This will clear more room for actual food preparation.
Many if not close to all of the Christmas meal can be prepared several days before saving a lot of time and mess.
No matter what time of day you choose to eat your Christmas dinner the prep for it can be done early. Meat is a great example of something that can be put in to cook at a lower temperature for a much higher time meaning you can get on with other food prep over time.
Any spills or drips are much much easier to clean when they haven’t had time to dry onto the surface. Clean immediately with an antibacterial wipe to remove any germ buildup
An easy way to remove mess when doing food prep is to have individual places for each type of rubbish. Having 3 plastic bags is usually the best way. One for compost, one for recycling and one for household waste.
If you are frying things or are worried about things bubbling and spitting a good way to avoid the amount of scrubbing needed later is to make a splatter screen. You can buy these online to go over the top of pans. These can then be easily washed and reused.
Inevitably there will be pots and pans that need to be washed after the meal has been eaten. A good way to make this much easier is to have a bowl of scalding hot water for these pans to sit in. This will loosen any grime and grease making it much easier to clean after. The water will cool down whilst you eat allowing you to just wash as soon as you are done.
These tips are designed to help you keep your kitchen in order whilst preparing your christmas meal however these can be applied to day to day cooking as well. Don’t miss our other great blogs filled with tips and tricks. Check out our social media pages and blog section for more.

The government has made it clear that cleaners are still permitted to work inside peoples' homes as long as Government Guidelines on social distancing and staying safe are followed (see below). In summary:
You can be outside of your home for work purposes where your place of work remains open and where you cannot work from home, including if your job involves working in other people's homes.
The full text can be found here New National Restrictions from 5 January (in England; there are similar texts available for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland). Specifically relating to cleaners, the guidance continues: 'This guidance applies to those working in, visiting or delivering to home environments. These include, but are not limited to, people working in the following areas:
Note this guidance is for people who are fit and well, and is dependent on the following social distancing guidelines being followed:
The good news with regard to cleaning is that the cleaners can social distance from their clients very easily, and we would advise that, if you are at home when they are there, that you remain in a separate room to your cleaner.
If you are happy to adhere to the government guidelines - and if your cleaner has not been in touch already - then please just call the office and we will ensure that your cleaning continues.
Best regards
