Domestic Cleaning Tips To Help You Save Time

If you just found out that you’ve been cleaning your home all wrong then you have come to the right place, as we’ve got some great cleaning tips which we want to share with you. Domestic cleaning services have quite a few tricks up their sleeves when it comes to leaving your home sparkling…

Domestic cleaning tipsSo, put the broom down, sit back and find out the best ways to clean every room in your home.

The Secret to Cleaning Fast

Most people clean their home room by room. This practice is called ‘zone cleaning’ and takes far too long. When people make the mistake of focusing on one area of their home at a time, they can end up spending two hours cleaning the bathroom, when they could’ve cleaned the entire place within the same amount of time.

The trick here is to clean smart

A technique that pro cleaners use is choosing a particular task, such as dusting, and completing this take for the entire home. Then they move on to the next task.
This way, you may have to do a bit more walking, but it’s faster since you are in a specific mindset while doing one task, rather than having to think of multiple tasks when focusing on one area of the home.

Start at the Top

If you’re living in a double storey home, start at the top. When it comes to dealing with individual rooms, start at the highest point of the room and work your way down. For instance, while dusting, start with the highest shelves first and make your way across the room. This way you ensure that do not miss a corner or cranny, and more importantly, you won’t knock dust onto an area that’s already been cleaned.

Cleaning Equipment

Prior to cleaning ensure that you are prepared and that you have everything you will need to complete your tasks and that all of the equipment is clean. Here are just a few cleaning tips of what tools to use for various jobs. Have an ample supply of clean cloths, we recommend that you use microfibre cloths for dusting as opposed to a feather duster, as you need to remove the dust not spread it around.  Check your vacuum cleaner is empty and all of the rollers are clean. Invest in buying a cleaning caddy so you can carry all of your cleaning products with you. This will save you a lot of time.

Glass and Mirrors

One of the best cleaning tips we learnt was to stop using products to clean glass and use only water. Dunhelm sells the E-cloth window pack which eliminates the use of any cleaning chemicals. You simply spray the glass with water and use the cloths to wipe and dry. This will also save you money over a period of time.

Spray and Wait

Go through the kitchen and every bathroom in the house, and use a spray cleaner on the counters, sinks, tubs, and toilets.
Let the solution sit on the surface for a while, before returning and wiping down or scrubbing the area if necessary. Don’t forget to wipe down all appliances, such as the microwave, as well as the cabinets.

Clean the Furniture

Go through every piece of furniture that has fabric on it and brush the surface with a vacuum extension. A clean damp microfibre cloth will clean most of your other furniture but make sure to change the cloths frequently.

Clean the Floors

Once you’re done with cleaning all the furniture, mantles, lampstands, doors, windows and cabinets, it’s time to turn your attention to the floor. Sweep the floor with a soft broom, then mop or scrub, if necessary to take out any stubborn stains.

Turn on the Vacuum

If you have carpets in every room, you will need to take out the vacuum. Use the extensions first to get to the high places and the carpet edges by the skirting boards. The best way to remove cobwebs is with a vacuum, as you normally catch the spider that makes them. Start with the bedroom, make your way down the stairs and then on to the living room.

Cleaning Tips to save you money

You can save money by switching to use E-Cloths as these reduce the need of using chemical products. If you prefer to use cleaning materials you can benefit by shopping around and buy unbranded products in the supermarkets.

Peace of Mind

Only 1 in 50 applicants makes it on to our carefully screened database. We interview them twice, visit them in their own homes and take up at least two references. And if they still subsequently don't measure up to your standards, we will send you someone who does.

Personal Cleaner

We don't operate in teams, and therefore you get the same cleaner every week. This is good because you develop a relationship with your cleaner. We have some clients who have had the same cleaner for years and years - and that's what we want for you.

COVID-19 5th January Update

Just to let you know we are open for business as usual and you can continue to have your cleaner clean your house.

The government has made it clear that cleaners are still permitted to work inside peoples' homes as long as Government Guidelines on social distancing and staying safe are followed (see below). In summary:

You can be outside of your home for work purposes where your place of work remains open and where you cannot work from home, including if your job involves working in other people's homes.

The full text can be found here New National Restrictions from 5 January (in England; there are similar texts available for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland). Specifically relating to cleaners, the guidance continues: 'This guidance applies to those working in, visiting or delivering to home environments. These include, but are not limited to, people working in the following areas:

  • 'This can include work in other people's homes where necessary - for example, for nannies, cleaners, social care workers providing support to children and families, or tradespeople (this is not an exhaustive list)'

Note this guidance is for people who are fit and well, and is dependent on the following social distancing guidelines being followed:

  • No work should be carried out in a household where people are isolating or where an individual is being shielded.
  • The cleaners can continue work, providing that they are well and have no symptoms. No work should be carried out by a cleaner who has coronavirus symptoms, however mild, or when someone in their own household has symptoms.
  • No work should be carried out in a household where any occupants are clinically extremely vulnerable to coronavirus, or households with a possible or confirmed case of coronavirus.
  • Whilst in the house. a cleaner should maintain a safe distance of at least two metres from any household occupant at all times, and ensure good ventilation in the area where they are working, including opening the window.
  • Upon entering the home, cleaners should wash their hands using soap and water for 20 seconds.
  • Cleaners should wash their hands regularly, particularly after blowing their nose, sneezing or coughing, and when leaving the property.

The good news with regard to cleaning is that the cleaners can social distance from their clients very easily, and we would advise that, if you are at home when they are there, that you remain in a separate room to your cleaner.

If you are happy to adhere to the government guidelines - and if your cleaner has not been in touch already - then please just call the office and we will ensure that your cleaning continues.

Best regards
